Somdev Devvarman - A Star in the making?

Indian Tennis has been on a high lately, and if you had to pin point one man responsible for this refreshing change, it has to be Somdev Devvarman. Being someone who has closely watched Somdev from close quarters, I have noticed that the quality in him that seperate him from thousands of wannabe tennis players from India is his 'never give up'attitude. He, like the current phenom, world number one - Rafael Nadal has a completely defensive attacking approach towards the game.

Hailing from a sheepish little town of Assam, in northern India, he migrated down south to Chennai to train at the renowned Nungambakkam Stadium. After his schooling he left to the US and was crowned college player of the year 2008. After consultation with coaches, he decided to throw his hat into the ATP tours, the Chennai open being his first big tournament. During the course of the tournament, he went on to beat big names like Carlos Moya and eventually lost out in the finals to Cilic.

Recently having won a Commonwealth Gold and 2 Asian games Gold, he is surely high on confidence and i would pick him to make definite progress in the ATP charts. Compared to the Rafael Nadal's and Roger Federer's, he still lacks in experience and fitness, but here is a young kid who is destined to make it big in WORLD TENNIS.
